Upper Glen Nevis

Description
Steall Waterfall, one of the tallest waterfalls in Britian, breaks down the side of Upper Glen Nevis, a glacially-carved hanging valley in the stunning West Highlands of Scotland’s Argyll region. The hike to this lofty falls was a highlight of the trip for me. I got up early to beat the crowds as I had heard the trailhead parking was limited and this location is popular…a move which paid off tremendously. Luckily there was a break in the rain that morning as I hit the trail, climbing up alone through the rocky gorge and emerging in this gentle green paradise. I headed down to the water’s edge to get this shot of the falls and the surrounding fields and slopes. I only ventured up the glen as far as the falls itself, then turned back as the rain started coming down. Sure enough, I passed several large groups hiking up in the rain as I got closer to my car. The gorgeously cool early morning moment I spent in this tremendously beautiful valley is one I will always remember. I especially like the composition of this shot, with the falls, the tree, and the smaller shrub creating a balanced scalene triangle.
