Dark Roots

Description
Deep in a particularly dense section of forest near Naked Falls on East Fork Lewis River, a hemlock tree spreads it’s moss-covered roots across stone ledges, driving roots deep into cracks for support. Little springs of water ooze out of the bank on the right, providing the tree with a steady supply of water and helping it grow tall and strong. I’ve seen a lot of very cool exposed root patterns before but this tree’s roots in particular gave that wild, slightly ominous quality. The dim lighting and deep green ferns with moss covering everything created a scene like that from a dark children’s story. The trolls, fairies, and possibly the wicked witch all live around here!
