Multnomah Falls In Winter
$0.00
Description
January 2017 saw a string of winter storms and freezing conditions which lasted for well over a week throughout the Pacific Northwest, closing the I-84 freeway through the Columbia Gorge for several days. The moment it opened I braved the icy pavement and 50 mph headwind to reach the frozen wonderland that Multnomah Falls had become. Even though it was extremely nasty out, to my amazement the coffee stand at the lodge was open and there were a few dozen visitors. I absolutely love the small figure of the woman crossing the bridge with her cloak blowing behind her in the literally howling wind. The quickly approaching darkness amplified the blue in the ice around the falls. I’ve returned to Multnomah Falls several times during freezing weather but have never seen the icicles develop as much as they did when I took this photo. The hills of ice at the bases of the two tiers were several feet tall.
