Fingal’s Cave

Description
We drove all the way across the southern end of the wild and scenic Isle of Mull via 35 miles of signal-track roads to reach the tiny village of Fionnphort and from there take a boat tour to see Fingal’s Cave, cut into the side of the remote Isle of Staffa in Scotland’s Middle Hebrides group of islands. Unfortunately we were not able to land on Staffa due to rough seas – I so wanted to go inside the cave as it is quite deep as well as hang out with the puffins and pufflings (baby puffins – best name ever!) that inhabit the treeless, windswept island in little boroughs. Felix Mendelssohn was so inspired by his visit here in the 1830s that he wrote a gorgeous piece of music inspired by this place known as “Hebrides Overture: Fingal’s Cave”. I guess I’ll have to go back, although hopefully minus the mild seasickness of the crossing back to Mull.
