Crooked River Petroglyph
$0.00
Description
This boulder, decorated by a local inhabitant hundreds of years ago, was discovered in the 1960’s during a survey of the river canyon which would eventually hold Lake Billy Chinook. The boulder was moved about a mile from its original location and placed strategically to maintain the original directional orientation it was found in. The exact symbolism or meaning of this swirling stone artwork is now lost to history. Today the boulder is found in Cove Palisades State Park near the summit of the road between the Crooked River and Deschutes River arms of Lake Billy Chinook beneath a prominent fin of basalt – a beautiful location for this intriguing piece of ancient artwork.
