Description
Of all the castle ruins we visited in Scotland, Carnasserie Castle in Kilmartin Glen was the best. Not only does is have incredible views from the top, but the castle is in better shape than some. Dating from the 1400s, it has a few really cool features including this delicate spiral stone staircase. The central column is only a few inches thick, as are the steps. I’m honestly fairly amazed visitors are still able to climb up it to the small stone chambers at the top. Black and white often adds that old eeriness to pictures and matches the Scooby Doo-like experience of exploring this ruin, plus it felt appropriate since the stone is an average, unremarkable gray.
