Description
Elegance and symmetry define Inveraray Castle in Scotland’s Argyll & Bute region. Built in the French Baroque style in the early 1700s and added to during the Victorian era, this stunning castle was the pinnacle of high society fashion and today inspires Disney-esque visions of fairytale princesses and masquerade balls. Today the castle is privately owned by the Duke of Argyll, whose residence is in the right half of the castle. The left half is open for self-guided tours through the exquisitely appointed salons and apartments.
The castle grounds are extensive, with the formal garden as the showpiece. I had to wait for some time to get this shot due to numerous visitors strolling the paths, snapping furiously as the view cleared and the sun lit up the castle for a moment. Seconds later the light moved on and a heavy rain shower commenced, forcing me to run for cover under some nearby conifers.
